It can work for flying (assuming an engine of this sort was made light enough for one person to lift like that)... just landing will be a problem.  I'm not seeing a way to eject (can undo the straps, but it's slow) or any parachute either, it's looking pretty grim T.T  That is a river I see though, so there is a somewhat viable spot to crash land that thing, water still smacks though, depends how slow that thing can be made to go before impact.  Upside down letting the contraption break the water may work best if it can be made to fly that way.

But a fuel jerrycan right in the back of a piping hot jet flame …. not a good idea.
